Hi, my name is Callie Rhoades. I am a multimedia, environmental journalist based out of the Bay Area in California.

I am currently working as The Oaklandside’s Nature and the City reporter through the California Local News Fellowship Program. I previously worked as a reporter for Oakland North at Berkeley Journalism’s Investigative Reporting Program. I have also worked as an intern for Estuary News Group, as an assistant producer for the Climate Break podcast at the Center for Law, Energy and the Environment at UC Berkeley, as a podcast intern for the Playing-It-Safe podcast, and as an editorial intern for SKI Magazine. My writing has appeared in Sierra Magazine, Oakland North, KneeDeep Times, Earth Island Journal, and SKI Magazine. My photography has appeared in Oakland North, SKImag.com and Fresh Water News.

I graduated with a Master of Journalism from the University of California, Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism in May 2023. I received a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in Technology, Arts and Media from the University of Colorado Boulder in December 2019.

I am passionate about science, health, and environmental topics. I focus the majority of my reporting on issues regarding water scarcity, water rights and policy, water issues, environmental justice, and climate change. I am also interested in using multimedia techniques to make my stories as engaging and accessible as possible.
